Statement

I consider each painting a new artistic journey. I am interested in the experimentation of color, light, and luminosity and strive to create a sense of balance with each composition. There is intense interplay between organic flow and my pre-defined ideas and the limitless possibilities that lie between.

My paintings are driven by chance as I layer, mix and pour to create compositions that are truly unique. As I paint, ideas emerge providing new opportunities and directions for me to explore and expose – but, I am also aware of my original scope of work which is structured and planned. The images often resemble “dreamscapes” of the landscape – a sunset, the weather, or even a season, but, all are subject to interpretation. As with every dream, each is unique, limitless, and truly one-of-a-kind.

My inspiration can come from a variety of sources including personal experiences, immediate surroundings, music, and the enjoyment of simply being creative. There are pieces that are densely and aggressively painted, and others that possess a more luminous and tranquil quality.

I want my paintings to make you feel something and I use a range of mood, color and composition to get you there.

Bio

I enjoy working with aluminum and steel. I love metal's reflective qualities and its durability. I use metal to experiment with colors, patterns and textures.
I start with raw, usually scratched and sometimes rusted, aluminum or steel. I then grind a pattern into the metal. Sometimes I begin with a sketch, but most of the time, my mind goes blank and my hands take over. I take out the day's frustrations on that poor piece of metal. I like the look of polished aluminum, but sometimes I'm compelled to experiment with color.
This year I have begun to delve into participatory art. It's fun to include the viewers into the creative process by inviting them to help configure the art in visually pleasing patterns. I plan to continue to create interactive pieces, but I want to add more three dimensional elements to the experience.
It is especially gratifying to take something ugly and unusable and create something people may enjoy. I appreciate the fact that powder coated metal is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. I take pride in knowing the pieces I create will probably outlast me. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy creating it!
