Background: Mikhail Bolkhovitinov received his art education from classically oriented programs in drawing, painting, sculpture, and the history of art and architecture at the Moscow Architectural Institute. As an independent artist, he studied and was deeply influenced by the work of the Russian and European avant-garde from the beginning of the 20th century, especially Bauhaus and the Russian Constructivism.
Continuing formal experimentation in Mikhail Bolkhovitinov’s artworks coexists with full respect to traditions and basic principles of composition. Each of his artworks, abstract and representational, reflects the artist’s creative thinking, experience and cultural background.
The range of Mikhail Bolkhovitinov’s artwork includes painting, collage and mixed media art. As an art instructor, he teaches the Composition in Visual Arts course at the Workhouse Arts Center.
