Artist Statement
The consequences of being dislocated have a profound effect on the human condition. Whether displacement occurs in an unpredictable or planned way, that change has a powerful impact on our thoughts, feelings and behaviors. As dislocation occurs in our lives it forces each of us to confront the essentials we need to exist. I create multi-layered, mixed media paintings and sculptures that address familiar themes within this context by examining place. As I investigate the importance of geography, home, and community, and communication as part of the human condition, I am building an understanding of the vital components we all need to grow, belong, feel, explore and survive.

About the Artist
Kate Fitzpatrick is an artist and educator from Alexandria, Virginia. She received her BFA in painting from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and her MA in Art education from the University of New Mexico.
