Watercolor Printmaking: Japanese Woodblock with Visiting Artist Linda Beeman

June 8 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Linda Beeman: Watercolor Printmaking: Japanese Woodblock
All skill levels, Young Adults to Adults

Linda Beeman is an award-winning Mokuhanga artist whose detailed prints have garnered top awards in juried competitions. Her work can be found in private and corporate collections around the world. Known for both the precision of her carving and her subtle, quiet colors, Linda’s prints transport the viewer to a place worth knowing and protecting. This is an intensive 3-day workshop that covers various aspects of the traditional and rare Japanese printmaking process — mokuhanga. The process is versatile and differs from western (oil based ink) woodblock in that it is water based and non-toxic, using watercolor pigment, wood block, Japanese carving tools, rice paste and Japanese washi to create beautiful refined prints. It is done entirely by hand without a printing press. Each participant will be able to print an edition of multicolored prints on Japanese paper. At the end of the workshop, a print exchange will occur offering each student the opportunity to go home with a print from each of their classmates. Printmaking experience is not required. Workshop is limited to 10 students, so register early to secure your spot! (Meets in W-6, 607)
