Open Call for Exhibits The Workhouse Arts Center offers artists and curators and groups opportunities to exhibit at the Workhouse in one of many galleries.  This open call facilitates interested parties in communicating information to the Center.  There is no deadline for entries. Applicants will be notified within three months of their submission date. Entry Instructions:  Open to all artists, groups or curators. Entry Fee:   $30 administrative fee. Funding:   As a non-profit, the Workhouse may offer exhibit space, basic installation support and basic in house advertising but does not necessarily fund all/additional exhibit needs. Fiber National showcases the best in contemporary fiber art from around the United States and highlights exciting, innovative artwork utilizing both traditional and non-traditional techniques. Paper Heroes Solo Exhibit featuring Craig Tinsky On View January 22 – March 9, 2020 Artist Talk & Reception: February 8, 6pm – 8pm In Paper Heroes, Craig Tinsky pushes the boundaries of the papercut medium by creating work that resembles paintings, screen prints, etchings and photographs. Drawing inspiration from black and white photography as well as digital pixilation, Tinsky introduces his signature style called Ribbon-Halftone. He cuts meticulously measured, wavy ribbons into sheets of paper, producing portraits so similar to photographs that they appear to have tiny details such as individual hairs and faint facial wrinkles. Josh Deweese On view February 6 – April 19 Reception: Saturday, March 28 4-6pm McGuireWoods Gallery, Art Lab   Josh DeWeese is an Assistant Professor of Art teaching ceramics at Montana State University in Bozeman, and a former Resident Director of the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts in Helena, Montana serving from 1992-2006. DeWeese has exhibited and taught workshops internationally and his work is included in numerous public and private collections.

Workhouse Social Dance Join us for our monthly Workhouse Social Dance in the McGuire-Woods Gallery (second floor of W-16) featuring dancing, complimentary refreshments and cash bar. The social dance will be led by professional ballroom instructors Bobbi Brennan and/or Cookie Bell beginning at 4:00pm and the music, dance, food and fun continue through 6:00pm. All skill levels welcome! The afternoon begins at 3:30pm with a complimentary 30 minute mini-lesson led by a professional dance instructor, versed in ballroom, Latin and social dance styles.
