Building W-4 Studio Exhibition: European Impressions: pastel paintings by Carol Iglesias
The Workhouse Arts Center presents the exhibition European Impressions: pastel paintings by Carol Iglesias, March 10 - April 4 in Studio W-4. The artist's extensive travels have inspired her and provided the subject matter for much of her work, which she describes as "Impressionist-style pastels with vibrant colors." Throughout her career, she has painted in various locations in Europe, including Provence, Tuscany and Italy, as well as many sites in the United States and the Caribbean. She has shown her pastel paintings in well over thirty exhibitions in galleries and museums throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Carol is an award winning pastel artist and has just recently been published in the book Best of America Pastels, Vol. II. As a fine artist, she is a signature member of the Maryland Pastel Society. Associate Featured Artist for March: Kathleen Best Gillmann
Surrounded by the stunning beauty of coastal and western Maine from her earliest years into her young adulthood, Kathleen Best Gillmann is inspired to paint by the world that she knows so well. As Gillmann finds her voice as an artist, it is not surprising that waterscapes should be the focus of her attention as Featured Associate Artist for March 2010. The marvelous qualities of water, sunlight, and the moods of atmosphere and weather have influenced her since her youth growing up in Maine and summering at her family's cottage on Rangeley Lake. She looks forward to sharing her vision of the glories of the natural world during this exhibit.
In 2009, several of Gillmann's landscapes were juried into shows at the Art League and the Maryland Pastel Society's Shades of Pastel 2009 national show juried by Richard McKinley. In January 2010, her large drawing, Where Land Meets Sea received an honorable mention from juror Steve Munos in the All Media Member show at the Art League.
**The opening reception for all studio shows and featured artists will be held campus-wide in conjunction with the 2nd Saturday Art Walk, March 13 from 7-9 pm.**
