Early registration is encouraged. Seats for this special workshop are filling fast! All skill levels welcome. Bring your sketchbooks, two examples of your own work and join us for an awe-inspiring weekend with master potter, Val Cushing. An internationally acclaimed ceramic artist, he taught Ceramic Art at Alfred University for over 40 years. Examples of his work and technical contributions to the field of ceramics can be found in every major ceramics book that has been published in the past 40 years. His work is also included in the collections of the American Craft Museum, Renwick, Brooklyn Museum and International Museum of Ceramic Art in Japan, to name a few. During his weekend at the Workhouse October 23 & 24, he will demonstrate and discuss the process of working with clay, and learning to develop a methodology about how to ideate and find self direction with your own work. Focus will be on using the potter's wheel as a tool and vehicle for expression and incorporating our own ideas and interpretation of the world around us with our own work. He will also discuss while demonstrating how his own artwork has evolved over the years through his individual interpretations of nature and his continued exploration and awareness of the world around him. In conjunction with the workshops, an exhibition of Mr. Cushing's recent work will be featured in Gallery W-16 from September 29-October 24. A free closing reception, open to the public, will be held Friday, October 22 from 7-9pm. Mr. Cushing will host a talk and slide show presentation that evening as well.
