Please join us in painting a community mural with D.C. based graffiti artist – Asad Walker! The mural project will celebrate Workhouse Art Center’s 10-year anniversary and include elements addressing the breadth of activities and programming on campus – art making of all mediums, arts education, exhibitions, performing arts, dance, music and movement. Asad ULTRA Walker has been an innovator in Washington DC’s hip hop and graffiti art movements for over 25 years. He founded DC’s first and longest-running graffiti crew in 1983. Education Open House

This free event is open to the public and will feature demos, hands-on workshops, opportunities to talk one-on-one with our amazing instructors as well as explore our beautiful, historic campus. Pottery Throw Down

Two teams of ceramics artists will “duel it out” for the most number of bowls made in 2 hours. Recovery Forge Open Studio

If you are a Military Veteran, Active Duty or Retired, Every weekend this summer join Adam Porras of Recovery Forge for free open studio time in forging. Recovery Forge’s main mission is to teach blacksmithing and bladesmithing to Wounded Warriors, Active Military, Veterans, and First Responders. Cabaret

Entering our 7th year of presenting monthly Workhouse Cabaret performances, our talented troupe of cabaret performers will give a free concert on Saturday September 8 at 7:30pm at the Workhouse Arts Center! This performance will be suitable for all ages and features our award-winning cast of vocalists performing a variety of vocal music from Broadway and the Great American Songbook. The performance will be approximately an hour long (without intermission). A la carte beverage service will be sold during this concert. Doors open 30 minutes prior, general admission seating.

Join Neal McBride for a walking history tour! The tour will cover all the outbuildings on the property for which the Workhouse is responsible. The tour takes about 45 minutes and requires considerable walking with sturdy shoes. Tours meet in W-16 and depart at 2:00p and 3:15p.

Art of Movement Luau

Aloha! The Workhouse Art of Movement program is turning 10 years old this September! Please come join staff and students on Sunday, September 9th from 4p-6p to celebrate a decade of happiness and awesomeness in our program. Short Film Showcase

Drawing Rally

Our drawing rally is a live art-making event – artists take shifts to each create a piece of art in only one hour; everyone is welcome to watch them work. Social Dance

Madhaunter’s Madhouse

October 5 - October 31

The Workhouse Arts Center is thrilled to announce the return of the Madhaunter’s Madhouse haunted maze of terror – to the Workhouse (9518 Workhouse Road, Lorton, VA 22079) on select nights in October, 2018. Screams will echo across the Workhouse’s 55-acre historic campus, built on the grounds of the abandoned and notorious DC Department of Corrections Lorton Reformatory.
