Statement

Step into Building 9 at the Lorton Workhouse for a bit of captivating whimsy. Jeanne Treschuk has created a “Magical Menagerie” of dogs, cats, and other animals. Bright colors, glittering surfaces, and charming faces abound. These paintings are not your typical pet portraits, nor are they cartoons. Rather, they are real animals presented with a flight of imagination. Bring a few pictures of your beloved pet and talk to the artist about commissioning a painting that will memorialize your special “friend.” Visit her in Studio 911.

Bio

Calling Studio 911 at the Lorton Workhouse her home away from home, Jeanne Treschuk paints in mixed media focusing on animals, fish, flowers, and 3D sculptural pieces. She was a founding member of MAX21 in Reston and AIM -- the Artists in Motion Gallery -- Studio 1010, also at the Workhouse. She was a long-time member of many local art guilds plus five years at The Artist's Undertaking in Occoquan. Her paintings have been exhibited in The Art League Alexandria; Reston; Springfield; Fairfax Government Center; Alexandria; McLean; Waterford; Rockville, MD; and through ValeArts in Oakton. Her painted six-foot gecko sold in the Bradenton Geckofest 2008, a public art fund raiser in Florida. She loved taking art classes while following her husband Timothy's 31-year peripatetic career in the United States Marine Corps, eventually earning a BA from Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio and a Masters in Art Therapy from Norwich College in Vermont. She has a varied background including fiber arts, jewelry and gardening. Altogether, she was well equipped to manage the Goodwin House Alexandria Arts Center nine years teaching everything from fine arts to the crafts before “retiring” to making art full time. Happily ensconced in Studio 911, she is currently working on mixed media whimsical “portraits” of dogs, cats, birds, and other animals. Bring along a favorite photo of your pet and talk to Jeanne about having your special “friend” memorialized in paint.
