Statement

Artist's Statement: Do I really want to head to jail every day? Of course, when it is the refurbished D.C. Workhouse and Reformatory! Now, the Workhouse Arts Center is a professional artist's center with cooperative studios, galleries, educational programs and more. Being a part of Studio Fiber Arts, I am surrounded by fellow artists in such an amazing community! I am delighted to teach both adult and children's classes. The Workhouse Arts Center is full of energy, creativity, inspiration and dreams come true.

Creating with confidence and passion, I use the copper-foil technique in stained glass. My drawing and painting background has evolved over time into original designs for both glass works and fiber art quilts. My stained glass works have been exhibited locally, in galleries and the Dennis and Phillip Ratner Museum.

Five years ago, I founded an art group: fiber artists @ loose ends, in honor of our art quilt instructor, Judy House. We began with creating “Healing Quilts” which are now on display at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. We continue to create art which is displayed at the University of Michigan's Brehm Center, Comprehensive Cancer Center and Center for Organogenesis. Art Under the Microscope: BioArtography quilts inspired by researcher's scientific photographs, is a traveling exhibit sponsored by the Society for the Arts in Healthcare in partnership with Gifts of Art. It is an honor to be a PAM (Professional Artist Member) artist of SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates), having artworks shown in galleries, exhibitions, museums, corporations and health care venues. I am also a co-representative of VA for SAQA. Teaching, speaking at guilds, The Alliance for American Quilters, The Daughters of the American Revolution, D.C. Chapter and other venues are an opportunity to promote fiber art.

Years ago, my professor at Albion College, Frank Machek, encouraged me to continue being an artist. My family empowers me with support, love and encouragement to create each day!
