Bio

Luann has been spinning, dyeing, cross-stitching, knitting, and weaving for over thirty years. She turns wool, silk and other fibers into shawls, hats, scarves, ornaments and tapestries. A long time member of the Waterford Weavers Guild, she has participated in numerous exhibitions and demonstrations at the Waterford Fair, an annual event in historic Waterford, VA that showcases techniques of traditional craftsmanship. In addition to weaving traditional craftsmanship. In addition to weaving traditional pieces, Luann specializes in creating cross-stitch designs on her handwoven fabrics and depicting landscapes in her tapestries. She also spins her own yarn and enjoys blending wood with silk, alpaca, yak, and other exotic fibers. She has studied specialized techniques from renowned fiber artists, including spinning and weaving linens with Katie Meek, spinning novelty yarn and special fibers with Patsy Zawistoski and weaving Shaker linens with Mary Elva Erf. Luann's work has been displayed at the Loudoun Museum (Leesburg, VA) and Green Springs Gardens (Alexandria, VA). A replica Shaker piece of hers was displayed at the Shaker Museum in Hancock, MA. Luann divides her time between Reston, VA and Whitefish, MT. She draws inspiration from the contrasting landscapes of Shenandoah and Glacier National Parks and from natural objects such as creek beds and fallen trees.
