Statement

My art work flows from realistic to abstract. My focus has recently returned to scratchboard and drawing, however, I enjoy mixed media/collage as well. MC Escher, Salvadore Dali and many others continue to inspire me.

Bio

Tuula Rissanen Ross comes from a long line of artists. Among her talented ancestors is her great uncle, Juho Rissanen, an acclaimed Finnish painter whose renowned works hang in government buildings and museums in Finland and other countries. Tuula's father, Kauko Rissanen, was a master woodcarver who carved over 5,000 relief portraits in his lifetime, many for Presidents and other dignitaries. Kauko finished his last portrait in June 2008 at the age of 97.
Tuula was introduced to art at a very young age, and drawing has been a passion of hers for as long as she can remember. She has a background in technical illustration and graphic design, and her award-winning work has been exhibited in Washington, DC, Virginia Beach and Northern Virginia.
You will find Tuula's artwork in Building 5's gallery at the Workhouse Arts Center and in Studio #512.
