Building W8, Studio 814
Background: Christy’s background in art began as a young girl growing up in Naples, Italy where she participated in archeological digs in Pompeii, helping recover ancient artifacts. This as well as watching ceramicists working with clay at the Capodimonte factory in Naples, fueled her passion for painting and ceramics.
The strong influence of her Italian background was the foundation for her work with ceramics in high school. Several years later she moved back to Europe, working with ceramicists in Northern Italy. She returned to the US and enrolled in classes 9 years ago at the Workhouse Arts Center to further develop her skills. She became a gallery attendant and teacher’s assistant and now has a studio as an emerging artist.
Influences: Antiquities from ancient Rome and Mesopotamia in which they blended sculpture with function, accented by beautiful art and decorative form. Christy is highly influenced by the look, lines, and movement of nature which is immediately evident in many of her paintings and floral art in her ceramics.
Artistic philosophy: Christy’s philosophy is that art is her way of sharing her vision of the interdependency between the earth and people and the tangible beauty this relationship cultivates.
