“Remembering” by Kathleen Gillman will be on view at the Workhouse Arts Center in building 9, September 11 – October 3, 2021. And, also featured in the Second Saturday Art Walk on Saturday, September 11, 2021 from 6pm – 9pm.
Award-winning artist Kathleen Best Gillmann maintains her studio in northern Virginia and has a growing reputation for painting landscapes and waterscapes. If some of her work reminds you of Maine, that’s no accident! Ms. Gillmann grew up in two of Maine’s most beautiful resorts: Kennebunk and Rangeley. In her youth she developed a profound respect for the outdoors and love of natural, unspoiled places which she chooses to celebrate in her work. Her principle painting media are acrylic, oil, and pastel. She has been a juried member of the Workhouse Arts Center since 2010 and currently shows her work every month at Arches Gallery. Over the summer she has been subletting Studio 512 on campus. This year, she celebrates 16 years involvement with the Art League in Alexandria. Her artwork has accumulated numerous awards over the years. “Hidden in the Layers” took a Merit Award in Maryland Pastel Society’s “Shades of Pastel 2019.” In March 2021, “Brooding Sky” (pastel) took an Honorable Mention at the Art League Gallery’s Open Exhibit and “March Thaw” (oil) took Best in Show there in 2018.
