Background: Cheryl is a fiber artist who loves to experiment with different techniques in mixed media, dyeing, batiking, sewing, and draping all types of fabric. She designs wearables, accessories, wall decor and couture costumes. Cheryl has been designing and creating since elementary school where she envisioned her first fashion shows, played dress-up with her siblings and designed her first skirt and bolero vest. She has acquired knowledge and inspiration from various places, people and times in her life. Her love for nature, travel and the beach has helped shape her artistic identity. She has worked with a handful of companies in the past assisting in pattern drafting, sewing construction and general assistance in a costume shop. She has coordinated and produced many of her own fashion shows showcasing her work.

Cheryl’s current studio,604 is located at the Workhouse Arts Center, in Bldg 6. Her studio space is creative, colorful and invigorating. You can find her working inside or outdoors. She also teaches various classes at the Workhouse such as Batik, Indigo Dyeing and more. You can find her listed in the education catalog. Visit her in her studio or online at www.perfectmistakes.com and on social media at _perfectmistakes_ ( instagram) and perfectmistakesdesigns (facebook)

Artistic Philosophy: Cheryl enjoys working with bright and bold colors to come up with remarkable pieces inspired by her love of nature. Cheryl’s art has evolved from merely sewing with pre-made and pre-printed fabric to creating her own fabric designs using the stunning art of batiking, shibori and dyeing with natural and commercial grade dyes. Cheryl’s Art is an expression of her energy and she strives to always stay true to herself and be free while creating. She loves that art can be healing and is honored whenever it brings that comfort to people she meets. She loves creating art that people feel lifted up by. It’s so rewarding to her when people come by her studio and get inspired by her vivid work. She has been inspired by the famous Jean-Michel Basquiat and in his words to always stay true to your wild self and be free.
