W-7 Studio 712
A child of a ‘Coastie’ (US Coast Guard), Sandi traveled the coasts of America. North Carolina to California, Alaska to Texas. Rich memories and unique environs influenced her life and her art. Sandi graduated in 1980 from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh with a degree in Visual Communications. She’s a self employed graphic artist / designer / photographer since 1990 and more recently, glass artist.
Sandi’s adventure with glass began in 2008 with classes in mosaics. Kilnforming, casting, flameworking and glassblowing followed. She discovered glass an ideal medium to express and bring her creative background and ideas to life. Sandi designs and creates functional, decorative and sculptural art in her Glasshouse studio at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, Virginia. She incorporates recycled glass and repurposed steel in some works, creating a style all her own.
Sandi shares her passion teaching a variety of workshops, camps and multi week classes. She was selected into the 2015 and 2016 Workhouse Directors Collection and has exhibited in the 2015, 2016 and 2017 Workhouse Glass National annual juried shows. In addition to her Workhouse studio, Sandi shares studio space at LibertyTown Arts Workshop and also displays at Fraser Wood Elements and Castiglia’s Italian Restaurant, all located in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Creating with glass is an adventure. An evolution of design through exploration and experimentation. New discoveries produce original art. The intricacies of color, texture, depth and form make the journey rewarding. Merging metal, wood and other media elevate the challenge.
I create functional, decorative and sculptural kilnformed glass art using a variety of glass along with repurposed steel, found objects or driftwood accents. Some works incorporate organic and metal inclusions or torch blown and flameworked components. Handbuilt bases and forms enhance the organic nature of my designs. Works include servingware, lighting, wall installations and accent tables. Commissions welcome.
