Arches Gallery Artists at the Workhouse: While these artists don’t have a studio at the Workhouse, they work collectively to maintain a gallery space in W-9 for a $45 monthly fee.

Artists Program

With approximately 90 artists juried into the program, the Artist Program is well established and the best known program at the Workhouse. 60+ artists have studios at the Center and 25+ share the Arches Gallery. Studios are priced moderately and provide a much loved creative community. The following information is for artists interested in being an Arches Gallery Artist at the Workhouse. For information on studios, please click here.  Artists benefit from being part of a collaborative and learning environment in the greater metropolitan Washington region. Shared values of artists in the program include:

  • Utilizing a unique workspace to create art.
  • Creatively growing within a community of artists.
  • Continuing to learn the business of art.
  • Producing sales of artwork.
  • Gaining professional visibility.

All artists in the program are considered artists at the Workhouse.

The beautiful 1,200 sq. ft. gallery is centrally located near the middle of the Workhouse Quad. The space is climate controlled with track lighting, drywall and historic brick wall, large windows, and wireless internet.

Arches Gallery Artists share an interest in creatively growing within a community of artists, growing their business, selling their work and gaining professional visibility. Artists meet monthly to change exhibits and participate in the Workhouse Second Saturday Art Walk. Artists also participate by gallery monitoring at least one day a month. Check out their facebook page or web site.

Added Benefits

Sales support (30% commission), marketing assistance, exhibition opportunities at the Workhouse and at other locations, ability to change to rent a studio without penalty (not including glass/ceramics), and free parking.

  • Participate in juried shows, curated exhibitions or are represented in private collections.
  • Show a commitment to their artistic career through an existing body of work.
  • Create all original art and concepts.

Jurors are anonymous and do not provide feedback.
