We strongly believe in the healing power of art. We’ve created these virtual classes, performances and exhibits to lift your spirits, to give you something to look forward to on the hard days, to expand your life beyond the walls trapping you in. And by participating, you’re also helping us. Doing this makes us feel better, too, and keeps Workhouse and its artists going. Because we’re all in this together.
This page is your resource to all things virtual at the Workhouse!
Our online classes come in two formats, live streaming and recorded. Learn more about online classes, see previews and samples and register.
The Workhouse is known for its resident artists. Every Second Saturday the artists studios and galleries are open late so you can meet the artists and see them in action. Our Virtual Second Saturday Art Walk introduces you to the featured artists of the month and their process. Check out our Virtual Second Saturday.
Our Performing Arts program has jumped into the virtual arena with biweekly Virtual Cabarets featuring amazing performers from the DC area. We’ve also got a series of Chat & Sip interviews with performers, choreographers, actors and more. View them here.
Our Exhibitions feature local, regional, national and international artists as well as National level shows. We currently have four outstanding Virtual Clay exhibits and Fiber National 2020 on view. View them here.
Our Art of Movement program went to work immediately creating short mini-class videos of yoga and pilates to keep you active and healthy. View them here and then register for live streaming Art of Movement classes.
We’ve created a Virtual Tour of our newly opened Lucy Burns Museum as well as readings from some of the books found in our museum that tell the story of the suffragists and the Lorton Prison history. Visit our Lucy Burns Museum page to check out the virtual tour and story reading.
Private music lessons are being offered for violin and viola, flute, voice, piano, guitar and cello. Register here.
The Workhouse Arts Center is able to offer these virtual classes, exhibits, performances and more thanks to your generosity. If you wish to support us during these unprecedented times, you may do so through our GoFundMe Covid-19 campaign. We appreciate your support!
