Workhouse & DEI

As a vibrant community arts center and active contributor to the cultural fabric of our region, Workhouse Arts Center acknowledges and affirms that:

  • In the United States, there are systems of power that grant privilege and access unequally, such that inequity and injustice result, and that must be continuously addressed and changed.

  • Cultural equity is critical to the long-term viability of the arts sector.

  • We must all hold ourselves accountable, because acknowledging and challenging our inequities and working in partnership is how we will make change happen.

  • Everyone deserves equal access to a full, vibrant creative life, which is essential to a healthy and democratic society.

  • The prominent presence of artists in our daily life challenges these inequities and encourages alternatives to productive expression.

We firmly believe that a dynamic community arts organization reflects the robust diversity of the region that it serves, and the art forms it supports. Workhouse Arts Center is committed to honoring, respecting and sharing our unique collective history and experience with the public through conscious leadership, strategic funding and development, and representative programming and community outreach.

We strive to infuse equity, diversity, inclusion and access at the core of our programs and initiatives so that individuals from all backgrounds can find artistic opportunity on our campus. We prioritize creating and maintaining professional, educational and creative environments that are welcoming, representative and inclusive, and we are committed to meeting these ends through collective and inclusive action. It is through these efforts that Workhouse Arts Center successfully drives authentic, sustainable and accessible community impact through the arts.
