This Saturday, the Workhouse Arts Center invites you to walk into an evening of inspiration, rhythm, and creativity. From gallery openings and live music to interactive art experiences, the campus will be alive with energy—including new exhibitions, open studios, and the Souq Social Market at the baseball field.
At the Rizer Pavilion, the legendary Chuck Brown Go-Go Band takes the stage with their unmistakable blend of funk and jazz—the perfect soundtrack for a summer night.
As you explore the campus, visit the studios of over 70 local artists in Buildings W5 through W10. Several Featured Artists will unveil new work and share the stories behind their creative process.
In our main galleries, three standout exhibitions await:
MaNiiTo II'NiNiiWak – Creative Power People in the McGuire Woods Gallery (W16) honors Indigenous artists and creative sovereignty, featuring 98 works by 22 artists from eight Virginia tribes.
Beyond the Clouds by Mike Pacheco (W16) blends surreal elements with natural themes, creating imaginative scenes where animated characters move through thoughtfully crafted landscapes. His work explores the intersection of fantasy and the organic world. The exhibition opens with a reception from 6–8 PM.
The 15th Annual Workhouse Clay International is an international showcase of contemporary ceramic art, featuring 50 functional and sculptural works juried by ceramic artist and painter Hillary Kane, who reviewed over 220 submissions. The exhibit captures the diversity and technical excellence of ceramic artists across 21 states and D.C., offering a fascinating look at the depth and breadth of contemporary ceramics today.
Around the campus, you’ll find hands-on fun for all ages: search for hidden felines in the Prison Cat Round-Up Scavenger Hunt, or create your own bold interpretation of the Aztec Sun Stone in our newest Create & Sip Workshop.
If you're curious about the history of the Workhouse, take a guided Historic Campus Walking Tour, or test your skills at our 18-hole Masterpiece Mini Golf, inspired by iconic works of art.
Whether you’re meeting artists, making something new, or simply soaking up the summer vibes, this is the perfect way to spend a Saturday night.
