Reconnect with the environments that surround us daily and present reminders of how landscapes shape and inspire our lives. The Alexandria Plein Air Society members explore the enduring beauty of the landscape by capturing fleeting moments of light, color, and atmosphere found in a variety of settings from parks to city streets, waterways and woodlands. They aim to preserve moments of stillness, beauty, and connection to place.
The Alexandria Plein Air Society formed when a group of individuals, united by a shared passion for painting, sought to continue creating art and connecting with fellow artists during the Covid pandemic. A meet up time and location posted on social media in early 2020 blossomed into weekly plein air sessions with newfound friends that continue on today.
By painting outdoors members of the society aim to capture their environment and preserve moments of stillness, beauty, and connection to place. Artists in this group come from all over the Virginia, Maryland, and D.C. areas to paint together and enjoy the experience, camaraderie, and yes, challenge - of painting outdoors.
