Solo exhibition; Muse Gallery, W-16 1st floor
On View: June 10 – August 7
Reception Date: June 11, 6 pm – 8 pm

The Workhouse Arts Center is pleased to present Piekne Katastrofy, a solo exhibition by Kay Kaelin. Piękne Katastrofy, or "Beautiful Catastrophes”, comes from Kaelin’s Polish heritage and the overwhelming designs within her artwork. Kaelin’s fine lines and mark making coalesce to create a greater whole, encouraging the viewer to step back, examine the details and find the beauty within.

“‘’Piękne Katastrofy” means ‘’Beautiful Catastrophes” in Polish. I am Polish, and I found the phrase in one of my great grandfather’s old journals. It spoke to me, as when you look at my designs, it’s overwhelming. It can be hard to make sense of it at first. But when you take a step closer and really look, you can see the beauty of it all. ”

Kay Kaelin

Kay Kaelin was born and raised in Fairfax City, Virginia. She always had a love of art since her early school days. It wasn’t until high school that she discovered the beginnings of her style. It began as a simple doodle that blossomed into what it is today. She was encouraged to explore her style in several different mediums. She has created works physically, using ink, digitally, using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, and in 3D, using Blender. This is her first exhibition.
