Exhibit: Inspirations by Russ Mardon - Building 9, November 14 - December 6, 2026.

Location: Building 9

On View: November 14 - December 6, 2026

Opening Reception: November 14, 2026, Saturday 6 - 9pm

Russ began painting in 2017 and it has become his passion and creative outlet. After completing a 30+ year career as a public health researcher, he now enjoys having more time for artistic work. In addition to the Arches Gallery, his paintings can be seen in Alexandria at the Art League’s Gallery 75 in the Torpedo Factory, and have been shown at Falls Church Arts, the Yellow Barn Studio, Del Ray Artisans and other local exhibit spaces. He lives in Falls Church, VA

Russ's goal with each painting is to connect with the viewer on both an emotional and a sensory level. Most of his works are inspired by his own photographs of nature or the human-made environment. Each painting creates a sense of time and place by capturing a recognizable moment that can evoke a memory or experience and spark an emotional connection. He uses a variety of brushes and palette knives to create a range of textures and thicknesses using expressive color. In this exhibit Russ will share the photographs that were the inspirations for the paintings, opening a window into his creative process. Some of the artworks end up looking similar to the starting point and others look very different. Come see works new to the Arches Gallery and stay for refreshments and conversations with the artists.
