Bat Boy The Musical

BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL

Story and Book by Keythe Farley and Brian Flemming

Music and Lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe

Bat Boy: The Musical is a hilarious, heartfelt horror-comedy about a half-bat half-boy trying to fit into a judgmental town. Expect campy humor, a killer score, and a wild ride from start to finish!

Inspired on a ridiculous tabloid story from the pages of the legendary Weekly World News, Bat Boy: The Musical is a comedy/horror show about a half-boy/half-bat creature who is discovered in a cave near Hope Falls, West Virginia. For lack of a better solution, the local sheriff brings Bat Boy to the home of the town veterinarian, Dr. Parker, where he is eventually accepted as a member of the family and taught to act like a “normal” boy by the veterinarian’s wife, Meredith, and teenage daughter, Shelley. Bat Boy is happy with his new life, but when he naively tries to fit in with the narrow-minded people of Hope Falls, trouble begins! You don’t need to be a fan of the original urban legend to love this show. If you like comedy mixed with a bit of horror and rock music, welcome to Hope Falls!

You don’t even need to be a fan of musicals to love this show. As long as you like having fun… this show is for you.

Is it scary? No! Is it gory ? No! ... well, maybe a tiny bit. But it is pure comedy start to finish.

VENUE: Workhouse Arts Center, Theater in Building W3

TICKETS: General Admission $50, discounted rates for Seniors, Military, Students, and Groups of 20 or more- see next page.

CAUTIONS: This production contains adult humor/language and depictions of violence and sexual assault. Props weapons and minimal strobe effects are used. It is best enjoyed by older teens and adults; not intended for younger audiences.

BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals

Jungian Surrealism Exhibition Reception

Jungian Surrealism Exhibition Reception

Jungian Surrealism

by Dave Curtis
‍
On view: August 15 - November 1, 2026
Reception: October 10, 6-8pm

Muse Gallery, Building 16

While traditional Surrealism focuses on Freudian principles of dream imagery infused with suppressed desires and repressed memories, the Surrealism of Dave Curtis is influenced more by Freud’s contemporary, Carl Jung. Curtis’ focus is on Ancestral Memories and the continuation of Archetypes that transcend the conscious memories of Homo Sapiens, and that will continue long after the reign of that self-destructive rogue species.

Cycles of history reassert themselves in a continuous rise, decline and fall in the history of both Man and Evolution, tempered by mass-extinction events. Curtis’ work goes far beyond the timeline of History imagined by Modern Science and Archaeology, instead reaching back into the “Deep Time” concept pioneered by Horror Author H.P. Lovecraft, in which the Elder Gods preceded the reign of the One God created by Man in His own image, revealing the brutal balance of Nature unhindered by that morality devised by Man.

Like Carl Jung, Curtis’ focus on symbols as expressions of Truth go far beyond the mere vocabulary and mathematics devised by Man’s attempt to understand the Divine. The beauty in this approach is that symbolic meaning is mutable, tempered by the viewer’s culture, ancestral memories and predispositions. A collection of symbols can take on different meanings, which Curtis believes are all relevant and that they can lead to an understanding of this world that we have all stumbled into.

HAUNT: Dark Encounters

HAUNT: Dark Encounters

In the fall of 1996, a group of friends set out on a road trip through rural Virginia, driven by an obsession with local legends and folklore. Determined to separate fact from fiction, they documented their journey through journals, cassette recordings, and camcorder footage as they explored sites tied to mysterious creatures, chilling histories, and long-whispered tales.

Before they could complete their trip, they vanished without a trace.

Two weeks later, an abandoned vehicle with their belongings was discovered on the side of the road. Among the items was a backpack containing what appeared to be human bones and a crude poppet made of human hair. Nearby, a smashed camcorder with a damaged tape was recovered deep in the woods.

For decades, the footage remained lost.

Now, with modern restoration technology, it has finally been recovered.

Thirty years later, the truth behind their disappearance is ready to be revealed. Are you brave enough to view the footage?

Join us tonight for additional 20% off to all military, first responders, teachers, and college students. Please show a valid ID in person to receive this discount.

Ticket prices are $35 a night; this allows you admission onto the trail multiple times for an hour during your stay. Sunday Wellness: "Simplicity" Sound Bath

‘Simplicity’

The Sound Bath in October is about returning to what truly matters. It’s a kind of homecoming – not to a nostalgic place from the past but a space of keen awareness in the here and now.

In a human world so accustomed to ignoring common sense; recognizing and applying the concept of simplicity might be the most curative ‘thing’ we actually can do individually and collectively.

Harmonizing the sacral, solar and communication plexus through sequential sound frequencies from the famous antique Wind Gong and specific Singing Bowls (Tibetan & Crystal) will elucidate to the freedom awaiting us through simplicity.

Camelot

Book and Lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner

Music by Frederick Loewe

Original Production Directed and Staged by Moss Hart

Based on "The Once and Future King" by T.H. White

Book Adapted by David Lee

New Orchestrations by Steve Orich

Borrowing from the Arthurian legends, Lerner and Loewe’s Camelot is the duo’s fantastical masterpiece which triumphed on Broadway in a legendary original production that lead to a film version, and numerous revivals in New York, London and across the globe.

An idealistic young King Arthur hopes to create a kingdom built on honor and dignity, embodied by his Knights of The Round Table. His Ideals, however, are tested when his lovely queen, Guenevere, falls in love with the young Knight, Lancelot, and the fate of the kingdom hangs in the balance.

Its Original Broadway Cast Album topped the charts for 60 weeks, with a rich score boasting such gems as "If Ever I Would Leave You," “I Loved You Once in Silence,” "The Lusty Month of May," and of course, "Camelot."

This newer adaptation of this classic musical features a smaller cast and more intimate storytelling technique that will resonate in our small venue.

VENUE: Workhouse Arts Center, Theater in Building W3

TICKETS: General Admission $50, discounted rates for Seniors, Military, Students, and Groups of 20 or more- see next page.

LERNER AND LOEWE’S CAMELEOT is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International.

TRANSFORMATIONS Exhibit Opening

TRANSFORMATIONS Exhibit Opening

On View: September 12 — November 7, 2026

Reception: Saturday, October 3, 3 — 5 pm

This documentary exhibition revisits powerful images by legendary DC-area photographer, Lloyd Wolf, while visiting inmates in the Pilot Substance Abuse Program (PSAP) at the Lorton Correctional Complex in 1989-1990. Wolf’s portraits were part of the Washington City Paper cover story, “Prisoners’ Writes,” Vol. 10, No. 8, February 23-March 1, 1990.

The voluntary PSAP program, founded by Dr. Jasper Ormond, ran from 1989-1991 and set out to help people incarcerated at Lorton’s Medium Security Facility recover from addiction through education and therapy. In 1989, the first 36 volunteers started with PSAP. The City Paper featured Wolf’s images alongside stories written by these men.  Their writing was facilitated by City Paper journalist, Jon Cohen, who published the following for this story: “I went to Lorton to do an article on the fledgling Pilot Substance Abuse Program. The inmates were less than enthusiastic, so I caved in and joined the program, helping them pen the stories of their lives.”

While Cohen led classes in memoir writing, Wolf was there to capture the experience. This is the first time these portraits and images of the facility have been shared outside of the newspaper. Wolf’s photographs present a rare firsthand record of what life inside Lorton was like.

The Lorton Correctional Complex operated as Washington, DC prison from 1910-2001. The Workhouse Arts Center is housed within the former prison dormitories, located on 55 acres of the former 3,500-acre prison. 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of the closure of the prison.

Sharing these documentary images by Lloyd Wolf is a rare opportunity to bridge past boundaries and present boundlessness of people occupying this site.

Lloyd Wolf is an award-winning photographer and educator whose work has been in over 150 exhibitions internationally and is collected in numerous museums and archives. He has done assignments for The Washington Post Magazine, National Geographic Explorer, People, AFL-CIO, the Smithsonian, HBO, Jewish Telegraphic Agency, Forward, Moment, and Vogue.

He received a National Endowment for the Arts grant in 1980 to document Arlington, VA. He leads a diverse team of artists for the Columbia Pike Documentary Project, funded by Virginia Humanities. Previous books include “Jewish Mothers: Strength Wisdom Compassion,” “Jewish Fathers: A Legacy of Love,” “Facing the Wall. Americans at the Vietnam Memorial,” “Living Diversity,” “Transitions,” and “The Road Ahead.” He has taught at Shepherd College, George Mason University, Arlington, Virginia public schools, and to homeless and immigrant youth.

Sound Bath - Is It Mine?

‘Is it mine?’ is the subject of the Sound Bath in July.

Not all we are dealing with in our lives is ‘ours’ to carry or to solve. In fact, if it is not, we might spend a lifetime struggling with something which was not ours from the start and cannot be solved by us.
